Stabilised gasoline/alcohol fuel contain (1) a major amt. of gasoline and (2) a minor amt. of (a) MeOH or EtOH and (b) a mixt. of low-mol-wt. alcohols obtd. by hydration of a gasoline or a fraction thereof with a high alkene content. Component (b) stabilises the gasoline/alcohol mixt. against phase sepn. at low temps. and in the presence of H2O; it is cheaper to produce than previously proposed additives (e.g. isobutanol).
