The adjustable hinge assembly for pliers and scissors etc. has a taper headed (13) bush (10) which receives the two tool members (1, 2) and houses a taper headed nut (20). The bush has a partly machined (12) and partly threaded (11) external cylindrical surface which receives the rotating (2) and fixed (1) tool members resp. A taper mouthed (16) and partly threaded (15) inner cylindrical surface of the bush receives the taper headed nut (20). The threaded length of the bush has diametrically aligned slots (17) permitting its radial expansion upon nut (20) tightening thus, locking the bush (10) and member (1) together. Pref. bush and nut have hexagonal sockets (14, 19) for spanner application.
