Disc brake pad return mechanism - has wear compensation provided by return spring with fixed compression distance

The support frame (2) of a disc brake assembly carries the friction pad plate (6) such that it absorbs any reaction to braking. A brake pad return mechanism (8) is also located in the support frame (2). A flanged bolt is held by a tension bush (12) which has a press fit in a central hole in the friction pad. The other bolt end carries a compression spring (17) which is housed in a fixed stop bush (15) in the support frame. As the pad moves towards the brake disc, the spring (17) is compressed over a fixed distance (23) which is equal to the return travel of the pad due to the spring load. Any brake pad wear is compensated by axial displacement of bush (12) inside the brake pad assembly.
