The moving guide arrangement is used for improving the flow of pedestrian traffic through openings, under panic conditions. The speed of the passage of panicking humans is improved and blocking of the exit is prevented. The guide arrangement is a spring loaded plate which yields sideways to the people before blockages become serious. The passage width increases when the guide plates are pushed sideways and the pedestrian traffic flow rate increases. As a consequence of this the lateral pressure is reduced and these guide plates are returned to their initial position. This process is repeated and people are able to pass through the exit almost at constant rate.
