A braking device for use by a skier has a pivoting frame of spring steel wire which can pivot into its braking position by spring action. At least one braking device protrudes outside the running surface of the ski attached to the pivoting frame. The frame (9) is so constructed that its mountings on the ski itself also serve as outward directed angled bends (8). The frame (9) passes through guide openings (5) in the mountings plate in an angled manner, through the bends (8) such that depressin of the frame (9) produces a rotation of the mountings in the frame plane.
