A system is used for electronic production of musical sounds of preselected timbre or tonal shading, which are determined by a harmonic vibration or overtone, having a minimum point and formant character, also having variable pitch and loudness or volume character. The instrument produces the sounds by means of a series of impulses the periodic length (T) of which is inversely proportioned to the pitch, and the impulses of which have a generally constant endurance (T) at least one octave higher which is a function of the frequency of the minima of the formant type over-tone as is the impulse form or shape.
