The circuit varies the speed of an automatic conveyor to a predetermined programme, having destination indicators selecting the path travelled, other indicators capable of storing data and detecting the momentary position of the item handled at particular points along the track, and a drive speed control unit. A signal proportional to the momentary speed of the drive mechanism-typically from a tacho-generator (2) coupled to a rotary component of the mechanism (1) - is fed to the signal input of an integration stage (3). The output of the latter is connected to one input of a differentiation stage (5), while the output of the position indicator (6) is connected to its other input. Its output is connected to the input of a desired-value generator (7), which in turn feeds the desired-value input of the control unit. The integration stage has a zero-setting input (4), to which one output of the position indicator is connected.
