The coupling is used for a machine subject to wide fluctuation of the rotating speed. The magnetic liquid behaves normally as a viscous liquid such as an oil; however, on application of a magnetic field it is able to connect a driven and driving element against the effect of gravity cover pressure and centrifugal forces. The driving shaft accommodates a solenoid for generating the magnetic field. The driven shaft is held in a chamber with magnetic or magnetisable liquid. When the current is interrupted then the idling torque of the output element can be reduced to a very low value.
