Yeast, lacto- and colibacillus based compsns - used to modify intestinal flora, treat colitis and digestive disorders, etc.

A compsn. which modifies intestinal flora contains yeast, a lactobacillus and colibacillus type microorganisms and also vitamin B12 and gp. B vitamins; the microorganisms being lyophilised in order to preserve the medicament. The compsns. may be used to treat colitis, enterocolitis, acute and chronic diarrhoea, constipation, and digestive disorders. The microorganisms may be living or dead, although the colibacillus is pref. dead since the pathogenic props are very variable. The yeast is pref. Saccharomyces cerevisiae although other non-pathogenic, naturally antibiotic-resistant yeast such as S. boulardii, S. fragilis, S lactis and Torula utilis may be used, pref. at 20 x 109 yeast cells g-1 and the lactobacillus is pref. L. acidophilus opt. with Streptococcus lactis.
