Moulded plastic suitcase - two shells have external reinforcing ribs moulded integrally with them

The suitcase is formed by two moulded shells (2), each reinforced by stiffening ribs (4) moulded integrally with them. Shells and ribs can be of cellular or honeycomb section plastic, to combine lightness with strength. There can be grooves (6) at the base of each rib for clipping on a decorative trim pieces (7). The method of construction avoids the use of metallic reinforcement with the consequent extra labour in assembly, and additional weight. The decorative trim pieces are polyvinyl chloride and there are projections (8) at the base of each shell forming support feet.
