Isoindoline nitroxide radicals of formula (I) (where R=alkyl; Y=NH2, -NHCO- CH2X, X=halogen, R1R2R3R4=alkyl groups) are useful in biology and magnetometry. In particular, (I; R=C2H5, Y=-NHCOCH2Br) may be used as spin marker of biological molecules; it reacts with proteins in biological molecules and allows the active sites of these molecules to be determined. (I; R=R1=R2=R3=R4=C2H5) may be used in a nuclear resonance magnetometer.
