The tape cartridge is used with a read/write unit to provide a random access memory for a small calculating machine. It comprises a rectangular housing (10) containing a continuous tape loop (12), would on a single tape reel (13), with the tape fed from the inner winding of the latter to the outer winding along a given path. The latter tape path is defined by guide elements (22) formed integrally with the cartridge housing (10), the tape being guided along one of the longer sides of the housing where the tape is engaged by drive means (30) and by read/write means (31).
