Automobile tyres have an inner carcase, an outer tread with grooves, and a central part joining the carcase to the tread. The central part has indicators that give a visual indication of wear when the tread profile has worn away to a predefined extent, these indicators being carried by the central part in the vicinity of the inner region of the grooves. Excessive wear of the tread can be observed directly, without use of measuring instruments.
