Hydraulic transmission for low speed vehicle - with closed circuits between hydraulic hub motors and pump via duct in solid axle

The hydraulic transmission for the low speed, high torque vehicle, has a solid drive axle fixed to the suspension. The axle is bored with three hydraulic ducts. Two ducts serve as connecting lines from the hydraulic pump to the motors at the ends of the axle, in the hubs, while a third duct acts as a drainage duct to drain back to the pump any hydraulic fluid which may leak out of the motors, to be collected in a special housing. The hydraulic pump is bolted directly to the middle of the axle and is connected to the ducts by lateral bores. The pump is driven from the engine by a drive shaft. The system is especially suitable for fork lift trucks etc. which operate in warehouses where there cannot be any spillage of hydraulic fluid. The transmission is simple and robust.
