Two longitudinal parallel beams (3) are provided on deck (2) and near the sides of the vessel, the top surface of these beams being some distance above the level of the tops of the hatches (4). Movable transverse beams (5) are secured to and supported by the longitudinal beams. Both sets of beams may be provided with corresponding groups of cores to secure the transverse beams. The transverse beams, whose length equals the width of the deck, may be arranged to project alternately over port and starboard side. There may be trolleys (7) to carry the load travelling on pairs of transverse beams and moved by pulley and tackle.
