A vehicle front wheel assembly with a Macpherson suspension has the stub axles joined to the body via telescopic shock absorbers (6) within coil springs (10). The ends of each spring press on a projection of the stub axle carrier (3) and on the vehicle body (8). The spring is unable to rotate and also acts as a means of returning the wheel to the "straight ahead" position. The spring is immobilised by end locking pieces.
