A system for electronic simulation of ship noises contain rhythmic repeated components and which are produced by such things as screw or propellor beat, ignition order frequency or similar sources, has a binary signal produced in a rhythm generation unit (2) used to influence a linear back coupled sliding register (3) to produce a sequence similar in form to the longest period of the ship noise required to be simulated. In order to change the character of the ship noise produced, the rhythm can be adjusted as can be register length.
