1443555 Growth regulant for Solanacious fruits CIBA-GEIGY AG 27 July 1973 [27 July 1972] 35864/73 Heading C1B A method of promoting fruit abscission or ispening of Solanacious fruits comprises applying to fruit-bearing plants before harvesting of the fruit or to Solanacious fruit, then unripe, before or after harvesting a compound of the general Formula I wherein R 1 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl radical having 1 to 17 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted phenylalkyl group or a 2-furyl group; and R 2 represents a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 17 alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group, a carboxy, carbalkoxy, or alkylcarbonyl orphenylcarbonyl group, or an anilinocarbonyl group unsubstituted or substituted in the phenyl ring, or a heterocyclic radical or a group of the formula (wherein RSP1/SP 1 is as defined for R 1 as defined above and n is 0 or an integer of 1 to 3) or R 1 and R 2 , together with the carbon atom to which they are attached, form a cycloaliphatic group containing 3 to 12 carbon atoms, and each of R 3 and R 4 , which may be the same or different represents a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted C 1 -C 12 alkyl, C 2 -C 5 alkenyl, alkylcarbonyl, phenylcarbonyl, N-alkylcarbamoyl, N,N - dialkylcarbamoyl, alkylthiocarbamoyl, phenylcarbamoyl, phenylalkyl, alkoxycarbonyl, phenoxycarbonyl, phenylalkoxycarbonyl, alkylthiocarbonyl, phenylthiocarbonyl, α-furyl or tetrahydropyranyl group) or a salt thereof. The compound may be applied to fruit trees 3 days to 4 weeks before harvesting the fruit, to promote abscission.
