1450726 Braking mechanisms; shoe brakes; slack adjusters EATON CORP 10 Oet 1973 [10 Oct 1972] 11877/76 Divided out of 1450725 Heading F2E Braking mechanism intended to be used in an internal shoe drum brake (10) comprises a support structure (40, 44, 45) for supporting the shoes (12, 14) for movement, a pair of adjusters (53, 54), each having a first member (57 or 58) engageable with one end (30 or 32) of one of the shoes (12 or 14), a second member-(84 or 86), and a third member (74) located between the first and second members and having threaded engagement (e.g. at 76, 77) with one member and journalled engagement (e.g. at 80, 82) with the other member, all three members of each adjuster being axially aligned, means, e.g. a cylindrical passage (55 or 56) in a housing (52) for mounting each adjuster (53 or 54) for axial movement of its members as a unit, an actuator assembly (102, 114, 122) engaged with the second members (84, 86) of the adjusters for axially displacing each adjuster from an initial position to a position in which the respective shoe would contact the drum, and means, e.g. pawls (166) operative with the actuator assembly to rotate the third member (74), e.g. by each co-operating with a ratchet wheel (78) forming part of a third member and thereby lengthen each adjuster during movement of the shoes towards the drum when the actuator assembly has moved the shoes beyond a predetermined distance towards the drum. The numbers in parentheses are reference numerals appearing on the figures forming part of the abridgment of the parent Specification 1,450,725.
