1484101 Degradation of rubber ANVAR AGENCE NATIONALE DE VALORISATION DE LA RECHERCHE 21 Jan 1975 [30 Jan 1974] 2567/75 Headings C3E and C3P An unsaturated elastomer is reacted in an organic solvent medium in the absence of air, or in an aqueous medium, with an oxidizing agent and a reducing agent, the former being selected from hydrogen peroxide and organic peroxides and the latter from sulphinic acid and its derivatives and hydrazine and its derivatives. Examples are given in which (a) natural rubber, synthetic polyisoprene, polybutadiene, polychloroprene in solution in toluene, or a natural rubber latex, is reacted with toluene-p-sulphinic acid and hydrogen peroxide; (b) natural rubber in toluene is reacted with 2,4-dichlorobenzoyl peroxide and toluene-p-sulphinic acid; (c) natural rubber latex is reacted as in (a) in the presence of the copper salt of ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid; (d) natural rubber latex is reacted with hydrogen peroxide and monophenyl hydrazine; (e) natural rubber depolymerized as in (a) is reacted with triisocyanato triphenylmethane; (f) depolymerized natural rubber is vulcanized with dicumyl peroxide or sulphur and a sulphenamide accelerator and (g) depolymerized natural rubber is cross-linked and grafted with trimethylolpropane triacrylate and (i) dicumyl peroxide or (ii) cumene hydroperoxide, sulphur and an accelerator.
