High current installation cable - is marked with parallel ridges along sheath whose colours indicate current rating and type of wire

The high-current cable (6-30A) has a coded outer sheath to indicate the current carrying capacity of its wires. The coding consists of a coloured ridge (3) running along the outer surface of the sheath parallel to the axis. The ridge colour denotes the thickness of the wire in the cable. In addition, a second ridge may be included parallel to the first and coloured to indicate whether the cable's wires are solid copper, or aluminium or stranded.
