The artificial head, for stereo sound recording, allows listeners to the recording to feel that they are more than ever in the room where the recording was made. Two microphones are positioned inside the head with their axes crossing one another and with their ends inside the ear of the head. - Coupling between microphones inside the head is arranged so that it corresponds exactly to the coupling between the sensing elements of the ear in a human head. The microphones lie in a plane at right angles to the plane of the outer ear (2). Additional directivity is achieves by periodically and briefly raising the signal level in one frequency band -- the exact conditions depending on the material being recorded.
