A process for the continuous production of powdered, active calcium oxide from the organic substances containing waste lime of the sugar industry

The process comprises introducing the preheated slurry and a calculated amt. of added fuel into a hot combustion air stream (III), which is directed upwards, and mixing intimately with this, the velocity of (III) being high enough to keep the solid particles up to a certain size in suspension for a certain time. The stay time for larger particles is greater than that of small ones, so the large particles fall and are collected and discharge. Temp. of air stream and throughput are regulated so that the particles are heated at over 400 degrees C/s and remain in the combustion and reaction zone for 1 s, whilst the air ratio in the combustion reaction is 1.20 (1.40-1.60). The calcined particles are sepd. from (III) at a temp. below which the lime reacts with the CO2 contained in (III). The CaO prod. is suitable for re-use in sugar mfr.
