A rapid acting sample and hold circuit of improved fidelity, for the stepwise conversion of analogue signals to voltage steps using a sample and hold circuit (AH1) with a first sampling switch (AS1) and memory condenser (C1), preceded by a differential amplifier (DV), with the input of the whole unit connected to its non-inverting input (E). The output of the sample and hold circuit is connected to the main output terminal (A) and also to the input of a second sample and hold circuit (AH2) whose output is fed, via a variable control, to the inverting input of the differential amplifier. The second sampling switch and the first sampling switch are time-staggered in operation.
