The pump is partic. for use as a lift pump supplying an engine fuel injection pump, having a roller-ended tappet sliding axially in the housing under the action of an external cam, while a detachable device prevents the tappet falling out. The tappet (3) is of rectangular cross-section with flat guide faces working in a guide sleeve (2) permanently secured in the pump housing (1). The detachable device is a locking pin (16) protruding into the square-section chamber (10) of the bush accommodating the tappet. This pin extends into a recess (19) in the tappet, and which forms a stop (20) for it.
