The wood burning heating or fire system is in the form of a constructional unit housing a support section on which the wood pieces are combusted. A take off or suction pipe removes exhaust gases, smoke and particulate matter. A fresh air supply system opens into the wood combustion zone. A fluid bath (6) is in the offtake channel (3) and the combustion zone (2) forming a closed circulating system. Exhaust gas is forced by a fan (4) through this closed system to provide heat exchange.
