The insulated coil winding conductor has paper strip or similar insulation. On its surface is provided a sliding strip (3). The latter is helically wound round the insulated conductor (1). It can be in the form of an edge (5) of the insulating tape (4). Preferably the conductor may have a profiled cross section, e.g. rectangular. The sliding strip may be of wax-like aliphatic hydrocarbon, such as paraffin or fatty acid, or their derivatives, such as a fatty acid ester whose solidifying point is approximately 50 deg. C. In production the paper tape wound into a disc is wetted in the edge region with the molten sliding substance and exposed for a short period to a hot air blast. The subsequent winding brings the slider strip on top of insulation.
