Burst duct restraint for nuclear plant - comprising multilayer band of metal strip with plastic deformation

An anchorage or restraint for pipes, esp. for steam or hot water ducts in a nuclear power plant, comprises a band passing around the druct and anchored in a concrete wall. The band is endless and is composed of numerous superimposed layers of metal strip (one or more strips wound round several times). The band passes round the duct and one or more anchorages. Band esp. passes around two bolts fixed in plates partly cast in the concrete and is doubled back around the druct. Part of the band may itself be cast in the concrete, so that a concrete plug or bolt passes through its loop. Device is for restraining a burst duct. The band is stressed into the plastic range, in the event of a burst, so that the energy is absorbed over a relatively longer distance and with a lower maximum force, than with a band composed of cables operating in the elastic range. Also due to the absence of complicated spring-like characteristics, the maximum force is easier to predict.
