The air brake flap (1) is operated by a pressure controlled ram (2) operated by the pneumatic pressure from a ram effect. A solenoid controlled pressure valve (28) regulates the ram pressure and hence the amount of flap deflection. The only connection between the aircraft controls and the flap system are electric, enabling simple assembly to be effected. The control signal for the pressure control solenoid (34) is modulated by a control (31) to correct for airspeed and height ie. barometric pressure. The pressure control valve solenoid is regulated by a non-linear potentiometer to provide a hyperbolic control curve for the flap.
