Gritting control for car wheels - with heated grit reservoirs and grit release coupled to brake operation

Grit reservoirs are mounted in front of each wheel and have a double skinned construction. The space between the walls is heated by coupling it to the cooling water circuit or by passing some of the exhaust gases through it. The grit can also be heated by heating coils in the grit to prevent it clogging. The release of the grit is automatic, linked to the operation of the brake pedal, with a main control switch to prevent release in normal driving conditions. The system provides good wheel grip on roads where spiked tyres are banned, without having to fit snow chains.
