The carpet cleaning appts. comprises a pressure container (1) with a cleaning solution (2) which is fed by compressed air into the cleaning nozzle (9). It is provided with an opening strip (15) and a gap (14) by means of which the cleaning solution and air can be supplied in measure amount. The cleaning solution in the container (1) is sprayed under pressure through the cleaning nozzle into the opened fibre (16) of the carpet (17). The entire surface is wetted by moving the nozzle to and fro. After working in the solution the latter is foamed up by the compressed air current which is supplied through the nozzle so that the foam together with the loosened particles of dirt are brought up to the surface of the carpet where they are removed by the air current.
