The light motorcycle or mpoed has a reduction gearing on its engine output shaft, driving a pair of variable spacing conves. The gear wheel is driven by a belt looped over the cones and a fixed ratio wheel on the rear hub. The reduction gearing eliminates the need for a variable reduction on the rear wheel and provides a simpler control. The cone spacing is controlled by pneumatic pressure from an engine driven impeller. The transmission ratio is then controlled w.r.t. torque.
