The guide chain, for cables, flexible hoses or similar fittings is esp. suitable for the service leads on mining machines, such as a coal cutting machine moving backwards and forwards. Chain links are hinged together and each comprises two spaced sidewalls (20,21) and a base plate (22) which unites these to form a U-shaped channel. The sidewalls on each are hinge-bolted to those of adjacent links. Some links, at least, are fitted with safety members to prevent the leads (13) from accidentally emerging from the channel formed by them. These links may have extensions (41) for connection with corresponding extensions on the succeeding links.
