Cattle food comprising a non-protein nitrogens cpd. coated with whey and carbohydrate matter allowing rapid conversion of non-protein- into protein-nitrogen by the microorganisms in the rumen, the foodstuff having an acid or neutral pH. This non-protein food is capable of assimilation by ruminants to form protein. Prefd. source of nitrogen is urea, prefd. carbohydrates are cereal, potato and manioc starches. Whey is collected during mfr. of cheese and casein. Coating of urea with whey prevents the evolution of unpleasant smells and maintains an appetizing product.
