Electrodes intervene in the formation of the arc and are joined of a material having metallic and non-metallic substances which liberate, under the action of heat at the feet of the arc, electro-negative gas or arc extinction gas. The electrodes surround the closing contacts of the circuit breaker in which is inserted the arc extinction device. The arc extinction material also envelopes the parts of the device which are not normally used for arc extinction. The walls of the extinction chamber are enclosed in or covered by material releasing extinction gas.
