A band passes over a printing roller on which is located a position mark which is sensed by a photoelectric detector. Similar position marks are located on the band for printing registration. The printing roller carries a disc which operates a detector to determine the operating zones for the position detectors. The position detector outputs pass into logic AND gates with monostables at the outputs. The operating zone detector output passes into an AND gate with a reference input. Its output controls the monostables through an OR gate. Driver circuits operate relays to control the positioning of a roller.
