Washing and drying machine comprises in a rectangular-section tub a horizontal-axis cylindrical rotary drum with perforated cylindrical walls and with at least one flank forming a cylinder base. A pulsating hot air drier directs hot air into the tub via at least one aperture in the tub wall adjacent to the drum base, and into the drum via at least one opening or perforation in the drum base. The drier pref. comprises a blower which directs air through a housing containing electrical heating elements; the housing is integral with the outer surface of the tub wall, and communicates with the tub interior via the apertures in the tub wall.
