The compact hydro-mechanical servo-mechanism effects the micrometric control of the displacements of a machine tool or a grinder. Horizontal, vertical or oblique tool motions are controlled. Dimensional adjustment s are effected by means of a central housing with a graduated flywheel. Tool advance and return mechanisms are located on opposite sides of the housing. The advance mechanism is of the micrometric impulse type, and the return mechanism effects the return of the main shaft to the datum position. A jack with a splined piston is used to effect rapid tool advance.
