Fuse with core of high explosive and material contg. water - for seismic and prospecting uses avoids drying, handling and storage problems

Fuse has a core contg. a mixt. of a high explosive material (I) and a material (II) contg. wateR, in a sheath. (II) can be water or an explosive contg. water, esp. an inorg. salt liberating O2, water and a fuel. The core contains 25-95, preF. 30-60 (wt.)% (I) and max. 60, pref. max. 15% water. The core compsn. and the mfr. of the fuse are also claimed. Fuse can be used for detonation in seismic and prospecting operations. Difficulties associated with drying, handling of dry explosives and the need for special storage conditions are largely eliminated and costs are much lower than usual. In an example, a core was prepd. by extruding a 1:1 mixt. of pentaerythrityl tetranitrate and a gelled explosive (368 pts. NH4NO3, 460 pts. Ca(NO3)2, 162 pts. HOCH2CH2OH 306 pts. water, 10 pts. guar gum, 2 pts. Na2Cr2O7) into a PVC tube (0.91 m long, 4.76 inside dia.). The velocity of detonation was 6.7 km/s.
