The plastic muff has an enlarged central bore which houses a rubber sleeve. The rubber sleeve has a central rib which forms an abutment and a seal for the tubes. The tubes are then secured with adhesive in the bores to form a leak-proof joint. The system is intended primarily for central heating systems but can be adapted for higher pressures by fitting a stainless steel tube in the enlarged bore which encloses the rubber sleeve. The joint can also be used with corrosive fluids by lining the pipes with plastic liners.
