Drying articles with a solvent mixt. - contg. halogenated hydrocarbon and alcohol or ketone, then exposure to vapour of halogenated hydrocarbon

Objects are dried by treating with a liq. mixt. comprising =1 halogenated hydrocarbon (I) and =1 hydrophilic cpd. (II) which is an alcohol or ketone. The treated articles are then exposed to the vapours of a halogenated hydrocarbon (Ia). (I) and (Ia) may be same or different and are pref. trichloroethane, perchloro- or trichloro-ethylene or a trichlorotrifluoroethane; specifically they are both 1,2,2-trichloro-1,2,2-trifluoroethane. Pref. (II) are 5C alkanols or RCOR' (R and R' 5C alkyl) and make up 1-40 wt.% of the mixt. An appts. for drying objects by this process is also new. Inclusion of the inexpensive (II) reduces cost of the drying mixt.; only a single heated vat is needed; the equipment used is simple and by choice of solvents all metal or plastics articles can be dried even if they are dirty.
