Coherent polychromatic light is converted to coherent monochromatic light. Process comprises pumping a laser till it produces spontaneous radiation of coherent light components with a number of wavelengths. A laser medium is then irradiated with these light components. The medium absorbs one, but not all of the wavelengths. It has a fluorescence band which lies inside one of the non-absorbed wavelengths. The non-absorbed wavelength of the fluorescence band stimulates the laser material to emit coherent light at the non-absorbed wavelength. The medium is specifically Rhodamin 66 in a 10-4-10-5 M methanol soln.
