Depilation of pig carcasses - using two stages of horizontal depilation rollers with both stages loaded simultaneously

Pigs arrive, suspended by their feet from an overhead monorail conveyor from which they are detached and moved to a holding station, waiting to undergo: (a) introduction to a first depilation station; (b) period of depilation at first station; (c) transfer of pigs from first to a second depilation station; (d) period of depilation at second station and (e) discharge of pigs to a finishing operation. Stages (a) and (c) take place simultaneously for successive unit loadings of the machine as do first and second station depilation operations (b) and (d), so that the holding station, stage (b) and stage (d) are normally occupied concurrently. Each depilation stage pref. comprises several cylindrical rollers rotating on parallel, horizontal axes and fitted with flexible beater blades. Transfer from stage to stage is by gravity chute. Used for removal of bristles from the skin of pig carcasses.
