FORMAL FUNDS FOR POLYURETHANE FOAMS

Mould release agent for polyurethanes, esp. slightly compressed insulating and filling foams, in (dis)continuous mfg. processes, consists of a soft, temp. p-resistant release film, capable of sliding, comprising a mixt. of 1-40 pts. hard, high-melting hydrocarbon wax with a m.pt. 70 degrees C, 40-85 pts. hydrocarbon oil with a viscosity of 10-400 cSt at 50 degrees C, 3-15 pts. metal soaps of alkali(ne earth) and/or earth metals with high natural or synthetic fatty acids and opt. 1-10 pts. nonionic emulsifier, in the form of a soln., dispersion or emulsion in conventional solvents. Fat-soluble dyestuffs can be added, pref. 0.05-0.1%. Satisfactory release is attained without increased contamination of the mould or collapse of the foam. In an example a soln. of 20 (wt.) pts. low pressure polyethylene wax (m.pt. 93 degrees C), 5 pts. Lanette was ASS, 5 pts. ceresin (m.pt. 60 degrees C) and 70 pts. mineral oil (viscosity 70 cSt/50 degrees C) was mixed with 4 pts. Ca distearate in 96 pts. C2Cl4, 150 pts. mineral spirit and 150 pts. CH2Cl2.
