Porous, open-cell, filler contg reactive material comprises a polyvinyl formula or polyurethane foam matrix and 10-80 wt % (w.r.t material) particulated in exchange-and/or complex forming fibres as reactive filler. Suitable ion exchange fibres include strong and weak acid or basic ion exchangers or polyampholytes based on PVA, polyacrylic-, phenol-aldehyde resin-, cellulose hydrate-, polyolefin- and polyvinyl halide fibres. Complex forming fibres are based on PVA-, polyacrylic and cellulose hydrate fibres. The material has high exchange rates, osmotic stability, mechanical strength and flexural/elastic properties and can be used in waste water purification, sorption from liq or gaseous media; water treatment and in selective sepn of metals.
