Heat exchanger comprises an outer shell, a bundle of heat exchange tubes extending longitudinally therethrough and a shroud disposed therebetween to form an annular passageway with teh shell. The shroud seals with the inlet nozzle for the tube bundle adjacent the outlet nozzle. Cooled fluid exiting from the tube bundle is directed along the annular passageway thereby cools the inlet end of the exchanger. By reducing the temp. gradient across the tube sheet thermal stresses and crevice corrosion are reduced.
