7-[(2-Amino-4-thiazolyl)-2-R''1-(oxyimino]cephalosporanic acids (I) with R''1 = H or alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl having up to 4 carbon atoms are prepared by reaction of 7-aminocephalosporanic acid, the carboxyl group of which is esterified by a group which can be removed by acid hydrolysis or by hydrogenolysis, with an acid of formula: IMAGE in which R'1 represents an alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl group up to 4 C, a group which can be removed by acid hydrolysis or by hydrogenolysis or a chloroacetyl group, or with a functional derivative of this acid, an acid hydrolysis or a hydrogenolysis is then carried out, or the chloroacetyl group is split off by reaction with thiourea. The compounds I and their salts are antibiotics effective, especially, against resistant bacterial strains.
