Dubbing leather, pelts and fibrous materials - with compsns. contg. fatty acid nitriles

Leather, pelts and fibrous materials are dubbed or greased by using fatty acid nitriles, (I), as dubbing materials. (I) are pref. derived from opt. unsatd. fatty acids contg. a 5-30C aliphatic hydrocarbon gp. Specifically (I) are stearic-, oleic- and tallow fatty acid nitriles, in anionic or nonionic emulsifier systems. (I) resist electrolytes, penetrate deeply into internal leather layers, yield a soft lubricating effect and are strongly bonded to leather fibre. They easily form aq. emulsions. In an example (I) was prepd. by stirring 70 pts. wt. stearic acid nitrile 15 min. at 30 degrees C with 15 pts. wt. ammonium salt of a sec. alkane sulphate, 5 pts. wt. adduct of 1 mol nonyl phenol with 4 mol. C2H4O and 10 pts. wt. water.
