APPLICATION OF GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY TO ANALYSIS OF ARMY WEAPONS MATERIALS, II ANALYSIS OF FATTY ACIDS

Gas chromatographs of methyl esters of seven saturated and four unsaturated fatty acids in various mixtures have been made. Liquid phases included Resoflex 296, Resoflex 400, Silicone SE-30, diethylene glycol succinate, Resoflex 296 plus phosphoric acid, Ucon plus Coumarone, and Appleton L. Solid supports included Gas Chrome A, Gas-Chrome R, Chromosorb W, Chromosorb W-HMDS, and Chromosorb P. The report includes 13 chromatographs and 10 tables. Separations of unsaturated from saturated compounds were not entirely satisfactory. Better results were obtained with temperature programmed than with isothermal tests.
