The data distributing system wherein the relevant data is stored in a data processing system together with the characterisations for the receivers, e.g. the processing or cost departments includes shelving compartments (13) in a distributor chest (12) which are associated with each receiving station. When the recording carrier is set up by the data processing system during recall of the data sheets the shel numbers associated with the receiver characteristic are recorded whilst a scanner (16) on one side of the chest (12) is used to activate a display sign (14) attached to the relevant shelf (13) during each scan of a shelf number. This system can be operated by inexperienced personnel.
